Dealing with Loneliness Free Essays
I never had many friends. I was always the loner kid, sitting in the corner, not talking or even looking at anyone, you know? The one with the glasses, the braces, the ââ¬Ëuncoolââ¬â¢ shoes; the classic victim. For as long as I could remember Iââ¬â¢d been picked on. We will write a custom essay sample on Dealing with Loneliness or any similar topic only for you Order Now Whether it was someone thieving my books, or pushing me over ââ¬Ëby accidentââ¬â¢, there was always something. The awful thing was, nobody seemed to care. The teachers chose not to see it, and my parents just told me to deal with it; ââ¬Å"just ignore themâ⬠was one of their favourite lines. So I built up a wall. I learnt to keep out of peoplesââ¬â¢ way, and just do what they told me to do. I never drew attention to myself in lessons; pretended that I was dumb, that I didnââ¬â¢t know anything. My teachers despaired of me, I think; after all, wouldnââ¬â¢t you? So when I started secondary school, I saw it as an opportunity to start afresh. No one knew me, I could be a different person, and maybe people wouldnââ¬â¢t be so mean. And at first, it worked. I had a group of friends, which was a novelty for me, seeing as it had never happened before, and I made more of an effort in lessons. My parents didnââ¬â¢t mind that I was going out every night to hang out in the park. They were just relieved that I wasnââ¬â¢t still a loner. I actually spoke to them at home, told them about my day; they were amazed. Over the next few months, my popularity increased. I found myself in the middle of a large group of friends, and it was fascinating to me that these people actually wanted to be around me, to be my friend, to talk to me; and this time, they said nice things, not insults and threats. I never told any of my new friends about the bullying at my primary school. I guess I thought that if I told them, they might change their opinions of me and maybe think that I wasnââ¬â¢t so cool after all. About half way through my first year at secondary school, a boy started at our school. When we were told in assembly, the name rang a bell in my memory, but I couldnââ¬â¢t put a face to the name. But as soon as he walked into our class, I knew who he was. I must have done a double take or something, because my best friend sitting next to me immediately asked me what was wrong. He was a guy from my primary school, the leader of the nastiness. I donââ¬â¢t think he recognised me; at least he didnââ¬â¢t show it ââ¬â after all, the glasses had gone and I was sitting with loads of my friends, not in my old haunt in the corner. For about a week he did nothing, he didnââ¬â¢t even speak to me; I was stupid enough to think that maybe he had forgotten. But I was wrong. About a week after he started, I started to get these texts, saying horrible, cruel things; worse than theyââ¬â¢d been before. I knew it was him straight away, but he never said his name, so I couldnââ¬â¢t prove it. My friends didnââ¬â¢t know. I didnââ¬â¢t tell them. My parents didnââ¬â¢t notice, it was a busy time at work and they were too wrapped up in their own lives. I became more and more shy, more closed off, and slowly my school work started to suffer. It was like being back at primary school all over again. Luckily, the teachers at my secondary school wouldnââ¬â¢t let it slip so easily. They phoned home and told my parents they thought something was wrong. My parents sat me down and wouldnââ¬â¢t let me leave until I told them what was going on. I didnââ¬â¢t want to, it was like admitting defeat, but finally I showed them the texts. They were horrified. I didnââ¬â¢t want to contact the school, I didnââ¬â¢t want to do anything about it, but they did, and I realise now that it was for my own good. The school sorted it all out; heââ¬â¢s gone from my life now, and I donââ¬â¢t have to speak to him ever again. My friends were shocked when they found out what had been going on. They couldnââ¬â¢t believe I hadnââ¬â¢t told them about it before. What surprised me the most was that they didnââ¬â¢t think I was weak or stupid, and they didnââ¬â¢t change their minds about me; in fact, it made our friendships stronger, because I felt more open with them. I think I would have dealt with it better if Iââ¬â¢d told my friends. But itââ¬â¢s in the past now, and I try not to stay on it. My life has moved on. How to cite Dealing with Loneliness, Papers

Nothing Poetry and Persona Essay Example For Students
Nothing: Poetry and Persona Essay Although the box is Just small, it is being tied skillfully and very well. It is not stated in the first stanza where the package does came from but lately, it is being mentioned that its from the personas father. The package box came all the way across 10, 000 miles of ocean. While opening the box, the persona can feel the love of his/her father that binds them together. Breaking Through if examined could be the literal meaning of breaking through or the undoing of the strong thread of two or three strands that are being twisted together tied around the package box received by the persona from his/her father. The title its self could be the connotation of the applied effort of a certain persona in the poem in executing a little labor by untying the box. This effort of the persona in the poem is very present from line 1 to 7 of the first stanza. It says that, Haltingly I undo the knots around your parcel that came this morning. A small box should require little labor, but youve always been thorough, tying things tight and well. The twine lengthens, curls beside the box. The title Breaking Through is the metaphorical representation of the filial devotion of the persona to his/her father. The title could be the denotation of the persona in the poem of the lessons that he/she had learned from his/her father. It could also mean love as supported from the last two lines of the second stanza. The line say that my father, this undoing is what binds us. Although its not directly mentioned that love is the breaking through, it is showed indirectly through subliminal meaning of the phrase this undoing is what binds us. What makes the father and the persona bind? The clear and not vague answer is love, nothing more. The author also used symbols in the poem. The first symbol is the box. As an assertion, the box highly symbolizes the love of the father to the persona that is being away from him. It is distant because the author mentioned in the last lines of the first stanza. It says that the package box came across 10, 000 miles of ocean. The box also represents the longing of the father to his son/daughter that is away from him for a long time. Through the box, the father extends his warm filial love to his son/daughter. The knots around the parcel also represents that the fathers love is true and fair to the persona. The love that is true and fair can be supported by lines from 6-7 of Tanta 1 that says but youve always been thorough, tying things tight and well. The twine lengthens and lines from 11-12 of stanza 1 that says you hoped the package would hold its shape across 10, 000 miles of ocean. In those lines, the father of the persona tied the knots thoroughly to keep the package in its original shape from the fathers home until it reaches the personas hand. It only signifies that he wanted that his best regards and love would remain in tact after Journeying across 10, 000 miles across the ocean. The knots also symbolized of how patient the personas father, it finitely reflects the he tied the box. In the poem, there is a mention of belt in the 10th line of first stanza. It says, once your belt slapped sharply against my skin, it is being enclosed in the parenthesis for further emphasis. The belt that the author projects in line 10 only symbolizes that the personas father is a man of discipline. He slaps the persona sometime in his/her childhood to discipline him/her. Through the belt, it shaped the persona for he/she no. Through the fathers slapping, the persona learned things between bad and good, and right or wrong. .u1c40e2c5993a7216507a087aaa96ce8f , .u1c40e2c5993a7216507a087aaa96ce8f .postImageUrl , .u1c40e2c5993a7216507a087aaa96ce8f .centered-text-area { min-height: 80px; position: relative; } .u1c40e2c5993a7216507a087aaa96ce8f , .u1c40e2c5993a7216507a087aaa96ce8f:hover , .u1c40e2c5993a7216507a087aaa96ce8f:visited , .u1c40e2c5993a7216507a087aaa96ce8f:active { border:0!important; } .u1c40e2c5993a7216507a087aaa96ce8f .clearfix:after { content: ""; display: table; clear: both; } .u1c40e2c5993a7216507a087aaa96ce8f { display: block; transition: background-color 250ms; webkit-transition: background-color 250ms; width: 100%; opacity: 1; transition: opacity 250ms; webkit-transition: opacity 250ms; background-color: #95A5A6; } .u1c40e2c5993a7216507a087aaa96ce8f:active , .u1c40e2c5993a7216507a087aaa96ce8f:hover { opacity: 1; transition: opacity 250ms; webkit-transition: opacity 250ms; background-color: #2C3E50; } .u1c40e2c5993a7216507a087aaa96ce8f .centered-text-area { width: 100%; position: relative ; } .u1c40e2c5993a7216507a087aaa96ce8f .ctaText { border-bottom: 0 solid #fff; color: #2980B9; font-size: 16px; font-weight: bold; margin: 0; padding: 0; text-decoration: underline; } .u1c40e2c5993a7216507a087aaa96ce8f .postTitle { color: #FFFFFF; font-size: 16px; font-weight: 600; margin: 0; padding: 0; width: 100%; } .u1c40e2c5993a7216507a087aaa96ce8f .ctaButton { background-color: #7F8C8D!important; color: #2980B9; border: none; border-radius: 3px; box-shadow: none; font-size: 14px; font-weight: bold; line-height: 26px; moz-border-radius: 3px; text-align: center; text-decoration: none; text-shadow: none; width: 80px; min-height: 80px; background: url(https://artscolumbia.org/wp-content/plugins/intelly-related-posts/assets/images/simple-arrow.png)no-repeat; position: absolute; right: 0; top: 0; } .u1c40e2c5993a7216507a087aaa96ce8f:hover .ctaButton { background-color: #34495E!important; } .u1c40e2c5993a7216507a087aaa96ce8f .centered-text { display: table; height: 80px; padding-left : 18px; top: 0; } .u1c40e2c5993a7216507a087aaa96ce8f .u1c40e2c5993a7216507a087aaa96ce8f-content { display: table-cell; margin: 0; padding: 0; padding-right: 108px; position: relative; vertical-align: middle; width: 100%; } .u1c40e2c5993a7216507a087aaa96ce8f:after { content: ""; display: block; clear: both; } READ: My annotations of Pablo Neruda's poems EssayThe belt also symbolizes display or the manifestation of power. It only shows that during childhood of the persona, he/she exists in the patriarchal world. Indeed, during the personas childhood, he/she exists in et patriarchal society for he/she experienced being beaten by the father. Not using the scissors in cutting could also mean a lot in the poem. As an assertion, the persona did not use the scissors to unravel the tight knots of the box because the persona wanted to savor the moment of unraveling with love. If the person uses the scissors, it will project that the persona is non-appreciative of the love of the father. Not using the scissors could also mean that the persona prolonged the excitement by opening it very lamely. It also means that the persona had learned the craft of patience from his/her father. The author had also left its readers the dramatic impact by not revealing what is inside the box. It poses questions of what is inside the box. Is it a food? Books? Dress? Bag or anything that is liquid? The reader cant figure out for its not revealed. A strong assertion is that, no matter whats inside the box, it surely resembles the love of the father to the persona of the poem. In a contemporary setting, if the author is mentioning about across 10, 000 miles of oceans, the first that comes into the mind of the reader is that, the persona is situated abroad or in states. If being assumed that the father is in Philippines, maybe the persona is in West Asia, America, Europe, Australia and others. The reader does not also know if the persona is working abroad, married, touring and etc. Because its not directly stated. What is very vivid in the context is that they are away from each other and they havent seen each other for a long period of time. The tone of the poem is about longing and sadness. In the first part of the poem, the persona undoes the box haltingly. Haltingly in other words could mean lamely. In this thought alone, an assertion came in that the persona is sad because it made him/her feel home sick as the box arrives. The tone of longing could also be sensed. As the persona is undoing the knots of the box, the persona reminisce his/her father-his teaching, disciplinary actions and love. Through the presence of the box, the persona can imagine his/her home that heightened his/her sadness and longing. Characterization of the father in the poem is also very effective.

Study of Consumer Behaviour on Soaps Essay Example
Study of Consumer Behaviour on Soaps Paper Our research project studied the influence of price as the major factor in the purchase behavior of Indian consumers by studying the purchase behavior of soap in a sample of students. As price is traditionally considered as one of the most important of 4 Pââ¬â¢s of marketing, and a review of past literature showed an existing link between price and the purchase behavior, the topic was chosen to study. A convenient sample of 40 students was asked to respond to questionnaire containing multiple choice, scale and dichotomous questions with a focus on price of soaps. The results were analyzed with the emphasis on finding the important attributes of soap considered by consumers and how they ranked of price among the most important attributes in soaps. Gender analyses of the results were also done to find the change of the perception of price among men and woman. Respondents were also tested on their knowledge of the phenomenon of hidden pricing. The results were analyzed and were plotted in graphs to arrive at the proof for testing our hypothesis. A. Introduction 1. The 4 Pââ¬â¢s (Price, promotion, product and place) are considered to be the marketing-mix variables that influence the consumers of a product. From a sellerââ¬â¢s view, these four are the marketing tools available to influence buyers. From a buyerââ¬â¢s point of view, each of these marketing tools is designed to provide a customer benefit. Out of the marketing-mix variables, traditionally, price has been the major determinant of a buyerââ¬â¢s choice. This is still in case with large segments of buyers across the globe. Although non-price factors have gained a lot of importance in the last few decades, price still remains an important factor in determining sales and profitability. Price exerts its influence in FMCG (Fast moving consumer goods) and marketers have tried to introduce new factors such as superior packaging, better advertisements, and increased number of choices to reduce the influence of price. The increased efforts are more visible in this product category as there is more competition for all segments in this market. Despite the extensive research, marketers still have poorly understood pricing and pricing strategies have become very important in determining the success of a product and a company. 2. Research Objectives/Hypotheses The objective of this research is to provide the insight into the degree of influence of price as the most important factor in the purchase decision of soap by a consumer, in order to provide a clear insight into the effect of price and the change of price in product sales which will help marketers to develop better pricing strategies and to plan for the optimum mix of the marketing-mix variables. Null hypothesis: Price is the most important attribute that influences the purchasing decision of soaps. Alternate hypothesis: Price does not play a significant role in the purchase decision of soaps. 3. Rationale for Approach The study started with collecting and reviewing existing literature in consumer behavior to ascertain the various factors of influence. Pricing related studies are also taken into account to find and conclude the presence of a research gap in studies relating FMCG sector (soaps in particular) and price to the behavior of consumers in southern India. 4. Value: in terms of Possible Outcomes The outcomes will provide the answer to the research questions of whether price plays a role in consumerââ¬â¢s minds while evaluating soap as a product and how much of an influence does price play in the buying decision. It will also give us an insight into whether price has the effect of overcoming customer loyalty and change habits and buying pattern. 5. Limitations of the study 1. The sample was fairly homogenous in terms of education level and income level. 2. The shopping behavior of the sample was not varied. 3. The study did not focus on the discount offers given on soaps. B. Methodology/Approach 1. General Research Design 2. Specific Research Questions 1. What are the factors that play a role in consumerââ¬â¢s decision of purchase of soaps? 2. Is price the most important attribute on which the consumer bases his purchase decision? 3. Will a change in price of the soap influence the buying decision? 4. Will a price change lead to shift in the customer loyalty to particular brand? 3. Data Collection Population ââ¬â The shopping population of the campus and surrounding areas â⬠¢ Sample Design 40 (Convenience sample). â⬠¢ Measurement methods Survey using personal, structured questionnaire composed of be multiple-choice, dichotomous, scale questions. 4. Literature review: An Exploratory Study of Sales Promotion Activities in Toilet Soap Category: An Insight into Consumer and Retailer Perceptions Kureshi Sonal and Vyas Preeta. In this research paper, an attempt has been made to examine the nature of sales promotion activities in toilet soap category in India, study retailer perceptions with respect to these activities and also get an insight into consumer perceptions of these activities. Findings indicate that with respect to the nature of the schemes, premiums (free gifts) were found to be the most frequently used in both premium and popular toilet soap category, followed by price offs. Retailersââ¬â¢ perceived price offs had relatively greater impact compared to any other forms of sales promotion. In line with the retailersââ¬â¢ perceptions, the findings of consumer perceptions indicated that price offs were the most preferred type of sales promotion. â⬠¢ Supplier Attributes That Impact Institutional Buying Behavior A study on FMCG supplies to Hotel Industry Githa S Heggde and D. Sudharani Ravindran. The study on the functional gap implied how and why a particular buyer or a group reacted to the decisions of the producer in selecting a particular product and its utilization. The study of this functional gap proved that effective positioning of the product made the market place work better so that the buyers make better decisions to buy the product. The study involved the consumer involvement in the decision making process through the involvement theory. This theory is about consumer learning, which presumes that the degree of interest in purchase of an item depends upon the risks involved. The involvement is also dependent on nature of the product or service and the psychology of the customer. â⬠¢ Consumer buying behavior in Asian markets Mark Speece. The findings of this study indicated that Asian middle-class was primarily value-orientated. The specific criteria for choice that Asian consumers used was different for various product characteristics. There was strong value orientation for product quality issues and price. Asian consumers looked more closely at product characteristics to ensure a purchase was worth the price they were being asked to pay. Consumers balance off quality and price, which means that they wanted good products, but not necessarily the best which they consider too expensive, or the cheapest which they do not trust in quality terms. Within that, how consumers across Asian markets reach their decisions is not so different from how western consumers reach theirs. â⬠¢ Consumer Buying Behavior of, and Perceptions towards, Retail brand baby products Adelina Broadbridge and Henry Morgan. For some consumers, retail brand products were regarded as superior to well known manufacturers brands (Gallup, 1997). A successful brand was perceived as possessins sustainable unique added values (de Chernatony and McDonald, 1998) or representing a variety of ideas and additional attributes (Gardner, 1955)and this was extended to many retail brand products. A higher risk tolerance usually occurred when the consumer required greater assurance about quality rather than price although for high priced items, social and performance risk slowed the growth of retail brands. D. Analysis of results: [pic] Fig 1. Ranking of soap attributes in purchase of soap Finding 1: Contrary to the assumption, Quality was ranked first by the majority of the people. [pic] Fig 2 Ranking of price by customers while purchasing soap Finding 2: 41. 6% of the respondents ranked price as the second most important attribute they consider while purchasing soap. The price sensitivity of the sample was checked. There were asked to identify for which price range increase they would change their brand. As shown in the bar chart below, most people said that they would change the brand only for a price increase of greater than 15%.
